Finding a Gentler Way
Leaving behind everything we have outgrown.
It’s becoming more difficult each day to live energetically the way we once did. Tried-and-true ways of dealing with life and its challenges are no longer working the way they used to.
The blinders are coming off. Many people are witnessing the abuse of power playing out on political stages across the world. Very little of what is happening seems to truly support or help the average person.
We are exhausted, and many have become desensitized because it’s brutally hard to hold the weight of it all. The old ways taught us to shoulder our burdens endlessly, carrying the heaviness of life everywhere we went, but that is no longer sustainable.
A deeper connection to the Earth and to one another is needed. Our governments are not coming to save us. We must begin supporting ourselves, our communities, and the planet we call home. It starts gently, with awareness of our own needs, and grows from there.
Stop the constant scrolling. Stop filling your calendar so completely that there is no room left for rest. Stop the endless consuming. I have a Post-it note on my laptop that reads: No clothes. No shoes. No stuff. Only necessities.
For me, consuming was filling a hole. Now I am learning new ways to fill my cup instead of feeding excessive consumption.
When we slow down, we can hear birdsong, feel the warmth of the sun, or notice the coolness of a breeze against our skin. When we slow down, we actually taste our food instead of shoveling it mindlessly into our mouths.
This morning, I sat down with a piece of homemade bread, crunchy almond butter, and fresh raspberries. I savored every flavor. Years ago, breakfast would have been an energy bar inhaled while driving to an appointment. Now I make time, even if it’s only a few minutes, to sit and eat with intention. Not in front of my phone, television, or laptop.
There is a world begging us to notice it. A world asking us to recommit to keeping her clean and protecting her resources. Yes, that can feel daunting, but small conscious choices matter. Pick up trash when you see it. Don’t spray for mosquitoes. Don’t use weed killer on your lawn.
Every small act helps. Mother Gaia whispers thank you each time you choose her. 🌎
can we add somewhere the necessity of connecting to our communities as well?
Absolutely. It fits beautifully into the heart of the piece because so much of what you’re writing about is the shift from isolation and consumption toward connection and reciprocity. Here’s a version with that thread woven in naturally:

A deeper connection to the Earth, to ourselves, and to one another is needed. Our governments are not coming to save us. We must begin supporting ourselves, our communities, and the planet we call home. We need to know our neighbors again. We need to share meals, conversations, gardens, skills, stories, and support. Healing will not come solely from institutions. Much of it will come from human connection, from community, from remembering that we were never meant to do this life alone.
It starts gently, with awareness of our own needs, and grows from there.
