March - The Awakening
Until I began working with energy I would say March was my least favorite calendar month. Generally, there are no major holidays to celebrate, in many places the trees are barren, the grass brown, and there is a layer of dullness that feels like it has overextended its stay. Not quite Spring, but not quite Winter. March is truly the in between, the threshold.
I now look at March from a different lens. March is similar to the first trimester of pregnancy, the knowing new life is going to emerge, but you must patiently await the gestation period followed by the anticapated arrival. It’s a time to plant seeds, gather ideas and emerge ever so gently outside of the home. Wintering is ending, and the blooming and becoming is on the horizon.
When I intuitively turn into the energy of February there is a deepening and denseness to the energy. February is an inward energy. The energy of March feels solid with a gentle rise in the vibration. Like a daffodil cresting the surface of the soil, or buds forming on a branch. A hint of hope and new life. The slumber is ending; it’s time to start to build. The energy asks us to step up and out just a little bit. Stretch your arms overhead, walk the earth, and begin to reawaken from the stillness.
In the past I wished away March and most of April, longing for the sun to warm my body, fireflies to return and spectacular sunsets that grace the evening landscape. Unfortunately, when we blindly rush forward, we miss the messages and the sacredness each month is here to teach us. If we don’t pause, we may miss the light slowly returning and the birds starting their migration back. March is the month to plant our seedlings indoors, and watch them slowly take root. It’s a time for our ideas and dreams to do the same.
March asks us to begin to be mindful and to transition. Not in a rush, but in an intentional way. What that looks like will be different for everyone. On a personal level I will be researching, ordering and planting seeds, learning how to make sourdough, raking the yard and preparing the raised beds. I will begin to imagine what plants I want to purchase, and how they will be arranged, browsing new recipes and deep cleaning my home. Oh, and I’m a sucker for a few new wardrobe essentials come Spring! I will also intentionally look at what wants to bloom in my work, and my heart and tend and nurture those ideas as well.
What are your feelings towards the month of March? What would a slow entry into March look like for you?
